I had the pleasure of studying with Dr. Schwandt from 2010 until 2015, and received my Master’s and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees under his tutelage. During that time he helped me exhibit growth that I never imagined to be possible. He led me to win numerous competitions, guided me through rigorous study in improvisation, awoke my curiosity into the art of organ building, and challenged me to never stop striving for excellence in all that I do. There are few musicians in the entire world that rival his breadth AND depth of knowledge and ability. To top it off, his pedagogy is second to none. I am currently the Choirmaster and Organist at the Cathedral of Saint Paul, the National Shrine of the Apostle Paul, and not a day goes by where I don’t revisit a concept we worked on in lessons, remember of an aphorism of his, or recall an encouragement that he offered.
