My time as a Master’s student in Dr. John Schwandt’s organ studio at the University of Oklahoma (Fall 2009 – Spring 2011) was a positive, exemplary, life-changing experience. Beyond fine-tuning my existing technical skills from pedalwork to registration, he challenged me to stretch myself in new ways – to learn about organ-building and maintenance; delve into the world of theater organ; explore the realm of improvisation; and the list goes on. He knew what it took to enhance my intrinsic musicality, and would not rest until he had demanded it of me, while also managing to remain supportive and encouraging through the process.
I have been the Music Director at the historic Falls Church Episcopal in northern VA for the past 9 years, and have played with major ensembles in the Washington D.C. area at such venues as the Kennedy Center and National Cathedral. My time with Dr. Schwandt helped equip me to be in the position I am today, and for that I am deeply grateful.
